Thomas Trehus lives on his family's 100+ year old family farm in rural Spring Grove and serves on the Spring Grove School Board of Education. He attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and earned his BA in Political Science.
Throughout his life Thomas has been deeply interested in public engagement. At the University of Minnesota, he spent significant time working on improving the community and issues pertaining to higher education. He spent countless hours at the Minnesota State Capitol pushing back against the seemingly endless cuts to higher education. Even though he himself could make it through college without entering financial ruin, many of his classmates would soon see stifling student loan debt.
It's that same compassion and empathy that led him to enter the field of politics and policy in the first place. The public policy experience in college allowed him to move to Washington, D.C. to work in the U.S. Senate. While in the Senate, Thomas learned the inner workings of the highest legislative body in the country, while representing his home state in the office of a Minnesota Senator.
After many fruitful life experiences Thomas has returned home to work in private business and work to improve his community. He serves as Vice-President of the local Sons of Norway lodge, as well as on the board of directors of Giants of the Earth Heritage Center, and he is actively involved in community theatre and local arts initiatives.
